International Jewelry Show.
The
Prospector Jewelers will
be closed Friday, June 3rd through Thursday, June
9th to attend our 14th annual
International Jewelry Show. This is our opportunity to
replenish our inventory and get a hedge on viewing the
newest designs and products. This in turn enables us to
serve you better.
We will
reopen Friday, June 10th for your
jewelry needs.
While this is the leading event in the United
States serving the fine jewelry market, we also find it
to be a forum where industry professionals gather to
showcase the latest creations, introduce new products,
and network together.
In
addition to purchasing the latest designs &
gemstones for our store, we also serve as a broker for
some of our customers, finding the perfect diamond or
gemstone for them. This can be your decision to choose
the size, shape, and variety of gemstone you wish--not
just accept what is available on the current market.
It's the journey of your special gemstone--from the
earth, to the cutter, to you--no previous owner or stops
along the way.

June's
Birthstone ~ Alexandrite
Gemstones
that display a phenomenon such as a color change, are
sure to mystify and fascinate you or a loved one. Select
from a variety of phenomenal gems such as Alexandrite
and Color Changing Garnet.
The most
sensational feature about Alexandrite, is its
surprising ability to change its color. Green or
bluish-green in daylight, alexandrite turns a soft shade
of red, purplish-red or raspberry red in incandescent
light. This unique optical characteristic makes it one
of the most valuable gemstones of all, especially in
fine qualities.
Alexandrite is very scarce: this
is due to its chemical composition. It is basically a
chrysoberyl, a mineral consisting of colorless or yellow
transparent chrysoberyl, chrysoberyl cat’s eye and
color-changing alexandrite (also in cat’s eye
varieties). It differs from other chrysoberyls in that
it not only contains iron and titanium, but also
chromium as a major impurity. And it is this very
element which accounts for the spectacular color change.
Rarely, vanadium may also play a part.
Alexandrite is a stone for experts, enthusiasts
and connoisseurs, a true understatement stone. Its
uniqueness and high value are not evident at first
sight. The mysterious color change will only occur on
exposure to different light sources. But if you really
get involved in alexandrite, you will be utterly
fascinated by this gem. Maybe you will also feel some of
the mysterious magic and lore ascribed to it. It is
considered a stone of very good omen. In critical
situations it is supposed to strengthen the wearer’s
intuition, and thus help him or her find new ways
forward in situations where logic will not provide an
answer. Alexandrite is also reputed to aid creativity
and inspire imagination. |

Color Changing Garnets

Nature's
miracles come in many forms: perhaps one of the
most enchanting is the intriguing color-change
garnet.
You may
recognize the green/purple-red color changes of
alexandrite or the blue/purple color play of iolite, but
few may be familiar with the spectacular appearance of
the red to green-blue colors they'll find in natural
color-change garnet. Slightly green-blue in
daylight and red-purple in incandescent light,
color-change garnets are a shining addition to any
gemstone jewelry collection. Think of the
compliments you can receive when you
design platinum or gold jewelry with this rare
and unique gem! |
